Supporting Community Attendance at the Wimmera Biodiversity Seminar

Yarrilinks facilitator Alicia was part of the working group organising this year’s Wimmera Biodiversity Seminar on 5th September in Goroke. Thanks to a Partnerships against Pests grant from Agriculture Victoria, Yarrilinks, Project Platypus, and Horsham District Landcare Network were able to subsidise tickets for community members and Traditional Owners to attend the event.

The Wimmera Biodiversity Seminar is an annual regional event, now in its 27th year, that moves around different towns of the Wimmera with a new theme each year. This year the theme was ‘Pests, Partnerships and People Power’, so it was a great fit for our collaborative Partnerships Against Pests Project.

Elia Pirtle and Lachlan McIntyre of Project Platypus also presented about the project on the day, with Lachlan summarising the history behind the project and all the groundwork Project Platypus has done to build partnerships in the region. Elia presented on the Weed Prioritisation activity for Landcare groups that she developed, which forms an important component of the project.

Through this initiative we were able to provide 24 community members with discounted tickets, and facilitate attendance for eight Traditional Owners.

This project is funded by Agriculture Victoria’s Partnerships against Pests Program.
